![]() It was that big! In Sketchup the height of the box, for example, is 1m, but in Unity its around 38.4 units. In this example I had to move the camera back to be able to see the box. Keep in mind that it’s my solution and there might be better ones out there. I will write about the two main issues I encountered and give you my solution. ![]() The reality is a lot more painful and I had a lot of problems with Sketchup to Unity process. The fact is, if this was so simple I wouldn’t probably create a tutorial for this. In this case we’ll have something like this in our Scene:Īnd that’s basically it! Our textured model will be in our scene and if it had any kind of hierarchy inside the Sketchup scene it will be preserved inside Unity. When in Unity you just need to drag your new asset into your scene. Since this will generate both a file and a folder of materials, I usually put it inside it’s own folder with the name of the asset, but that’s just a matter of choice. Make sure you save your exported file into your Assets folder inside your Unity project folder. Although I have the whole scene in one Sketchup file, I export each object independently to Unity. In the next chapter I will explain why that’s not such a good idea.Īnother thing you can do, which I find very useful, is to export only the selected object. If you read other tutorials (like I did) you will probably remember that some of them tell you to check the “ Export Two-Sided Faces“. Let’s select “ Triangulate All Faces“, “ Preserve Component Hierarchies” and “ Export Texture Maps” and leave everything else unchecked. In that box you have several options for the exporter to consider while converting the format of your model. Let’s choose “ Collada File (*.dae)” and then click on the Options button right next to the format name. Then, if you go to File > Export > 3D Model you get to choose a place to save the exported version of your model and the format you want it exported to. To make the example a little more complete we can add some texture to our new box. Let’s start by creating a very simple object, like a box, in Sketchup that we will export and use in Unity. So, let’s start with a very simple example and then we’ll talk about issues you might expect. ![]() Good thing Unity seems to be happy with DAE, so that’s the one I’ll use in this tutorial. In the past we could use FBX to export from Sketchup, but now we only have DAE and KMZ. This post is going to be about the current versions of Sketchup Make 15 and Unity 5.1. ![]() Somehow my models were always incorrect or untexturized or something! The fact is that Unity has come a long way and the compatibility has become very good with a lot of 3D formats. If anyone tried to do this in the past it was something a little bit hard. But now I want to reuse them in my remake and make them really 3D so I can navigate them in real time. At the time I was making a 2D game so my only concern was how to render the scenes in the best way possible. Sketchup is amazingly easy to use and I didn’t want to spend a lot of time learning 3D softwares to make a simple room. Of course, given how children are the intended target demographic for the Barbie franchise, the notion of camp has always been inherently woven into the fabric of the brand and its visuals with its playful, larger-than-life interpretation of reality.I’m currently working on a remake for my Light Asylum games (1 and 2) and, at the time, I made most of the visuals of the game in Sketchup. If you missed out on the show notes from 2019’s MET Gala theme, camp simply refers to the ‘love of artifice and exaggeration’, as American writer Susan Sontag describes. Bonus points if it’s pink, for maximum Barbiecore room decor vibes.Īnother obvious design motif that is common to the Barbiecore aesthetic is naturally, camp. Fortunately, furniture pieces after MCM can still be commonly found in most stores. ![]() Naturally, you can score some extra Barbiecore points by adding mid-century modern furniture to your room or home, such as a sofa. This design motif is most famously featured in the first-ever Barbie Dream House set, which was introduced as a two-storey loft chock full of wood facade appointed MCM furnishings and pinks, yellows, and blues, representing the pinnacle of luxury living for the Mod era. ![]()

There has been some debate on whether or not fancams are just AMVs by a different name, or if they're really different enough to warrant a separate name and definition. This me celebrating Newgrounds supporting 4k videos, AND giving me the option to submit cartoons while opting out of awards (I felt like. Fancams tend to be shorter than AMVs and focus heavily on one character (usually their face). The entire Dedmos series played in one continuous video Follow the adventures of Deimos just after his untimely death, and the resulting escapades he endured as a direct result. In circa 2019 the term fancam began to be used, particularly on Twitter and by K-pop fans. It's likely that the act and usage of the word "vidding" versus "AMV" is simply a change in lingo across time, though they are nearly the exact same thing (see Fannish Drift). Still, the connection between a vid and an AMV is there, and can be used almost interchangeably. While searching "X-Files AMV" on Youtube reveals an endless stream of just X-files clips set to music, searching "X-Files Vid" reveals a list of music videos mixed in with regular clips of the show and crack videos. The first fanvids were made in 1975 by Kandy Fong using a slide projector and a cassette tape player. Vidding is the act or process of creating a fan-oriented video or "fanvid" using live-action TV or movie footage set to music (or other audio). Vidding has existed for a very long time in fandom. According to Wikipedia "the first anime music video was created in 1982 by 21-year-old Jim Kaposztas." However, animated music videos have been around much longer than the phrase's current meaning. There is no doubt that anime music videos coined the usage of "AMV" first. They are common in the Warrior Cats fandom though many fandoms also create MAPs, and there are even a large amount of original character MAPs. They are different than animatics or PMVs (picture music videos) due to having more fluid animation. To differentiate between AMVs that use canon clips from AMVs that are set to artist-drawn animation and involve multiple artists, some AMVs are instead identified as MAPs, or " multi-animator projects" (not to be confused with MAP, or "Minor Attracted Person"). For example, if one searches X-Files AMV on Youtube they will find fan made music videos of clips to the X-files, even though the X-files is not technically animated. While "animated music video" draws attention to the 'animated' part of the phrase, people who make and enjoy AMVs do indeed list non-animated content as "AMVs." So, broadly, the phrase refers to any non-anime music video. These can either be music videos with animations drawn by artists, music videos set to clips of cartoons, or even music videos set to real footage of things like TV shows and movies. Though "AMV" is more widely known as anime music video in general online searches, at least one Urban Dictionary entry from 2015 acknowledges that AMV can mean animated music video, and popular media video essayist Izzzyzzz refers to AMV as animated music video in a 2022 video about Movie Star Planet. An animated music video, or an " AMV," (not to be confused with Anime Music Videos) is a broad term that can refer to a number of video arts, mostly on Youtube. ![]() ![]() Also known as intron or intein encoded endonucleases.Ī restriction enzyme recognition sequence containing a dyad axis of symmetry separated by a specific number of totally degenerate nucleotides (denoted by the letter N).Įndonucleases encoded by genes with mobile, self-splicing introns or inteins (protein introns). Under pressure from Congress, the Pentagon and intelligence agencies have gathered hundreds of reports of unexplained phenomena. Some of the videos released by the Pentagon have been explained as optical illusions or drones, but others remain unexplained and the object of much speculation. Interest in UFOs has always been high, but it has grown even more since a collection of videos showing unidentified phenomena recorded by military sensors was made public and naval aviators described hard-to-explain events while on training missions. Senate staff members say the intent is to select a group of people who would push for disclosure while protecting sensitive intelligence collection methods. President Joe Biden would appoint the nine-person review board, subject to Senate approval. The Senate measure sets a 300-day deadline for government agencies to organize their records on unidentified phenomena and provide them to the review board. (While the government has agreed not to call mysterious sightings UFOs, various branches and agencies disagree on whether to refer to aerial phenomena or anomalous phenomena.) On Wednesday, the chamber included a narrower measure in its version of the annual defense bill that would push the Pentagon to release documents about unidentified aerial phenomena. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., and Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who has championed legislation that has forced the government to release a series of reports on unidentified phenomena. The legislation, which Schumer will introduce as an amendment to the annual defense policy bill, has bipartisan support, including that of Sens. The measure offers the possibility of pushing back against the conspiracy theories that surround discussions of UFOs and fears that the government is hiding critical information from the public. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., the majority leader, is pushing legislation to create a commission with broad authority to declassify government documents about UFOs and extraterrestrial matters in an attempt to force the government to share all that it knows about unidentified phenomena. I look best in dark pastels and dusty gem tones, but the overriding feel of my season is cool. As opposed to Light Summer, Cool Summer, or Muted Summer. Some of the materials the writer received from his color consultant. It looks like a very bad Warhol knockoff. Among the attachments is a PDF of my face, 50 times over, each in front of a different color. I don’t know how long it takes Brailey to study the material I send her, but the next day I receive an email with my results. Brailey requests a specific series of photos with which to analyze me: some new, in which I need to wear a white shirt, pose in the best light possible, and capture close-ups of my eyes and the inside of my forearm plus an assortment of older images of me throughout the years.Īccording to one image consultant, an in-person seasonal color analysis takes about two hours. I’m disappointed, sure, but I’m promised that the results will be the same. I have my colors done by Carol Brailey-the same analyst who inspired Hurst and consulted Friedman-over the internet, so I don’t get to wear the white sheet and be born again with square after square of reds and yellows and pinks and blues. Can’t be measured. But I’d sure like to feel it for myself. If I’m going to have to look at pictures of myself wearing this one suit for the rest of my life, why not find one that makes me look alive and well? And, on the precipice of my nuptials, something Carole Jackson wrote in Color Me Beautiful really jumps out at me: “During my years as a color consultant, I have found that matching people with their colors produces immeasurable happiness.” That’s precisely why I’ve decided to try color analysis now: I want my face-and the rest of me, for that matter-to look good when I get married. “Women have makeup, jewelry, all these things to help them look more attractive. “I could make the argument that color analysis is more important for men to do than women,” says Jelena Heger, a certified color consultant. Which is a shame, because a lot of us could use the help. But while there is nothing gendered about wearing flattering colors, the trend mostly hasn’t been adopted by men. It’s like a Buzzfeed quiz, only the results are genuinely helpful. With its mixture of self-analysis, DIY styling, and self-validation, it makes sense that so many young women are getting their colors done again. Partially, that’s because the logic behind it is pretty sound: the right colors will make you appear more vibrant and alive, the wrong colors will wash you out, and knowing your season can help you navigate all that. Over the past couple of years, the concept has taken hold again amongst millennials and Gen Zs, many of whom shell out hundreds of dollars to have experts determine their seasons. But as the ‘90s arrived, the movement all but dried up-replaced in the culture with fad diets and instruction on how to dress for one’s body. ![]() There’s probably still a copy of Color Me Beautiful on your mother’s basement bookshelf. It was how a woman knew what to wear, ruling the style world alongside eye shadow and rouge and monstrous shoulder pads. For a long stretch in the ‘80s, knowing one’s colors was as ubiquitous as knowing one’s star sign. The book-which has sold more than 13 million copies and spent seven years on the New York Times Best Seller list-is predicated on the idea that each of our skin, hair, and eye combinations corresponds best to a palette of colors somewhat arbitrarily named for a season: a Winter person, for instance, might have fairer skin and darker hair, and will look best in jewel tones like emerald greens and sapphire blues. In 1973, Carole Jackson published Color Me Beautiful, her seminal work on the subject of seasonal color analysis. ![]() Instead, it’s led me on a journey to discover my color season. The last thing you want to do is cause permanent transmitter damage-especially with higher-cost singlemode equipment.Īnother important point: Cable loss is typically the smallest contributor to system attenuation. Not only does mating cause poor performance because the fiber cores will not touch, but it can also destroy both connectors. One thing that should be noted is that APC and UPC connectors cannot and should not be mated. Future higher-speed passive optical networks and other WDM applications that will use higher wavelengths via singlemode fiber will also likely require the reduced return loss of APC connectors. That is why we see APC connectors being used by most cable companies and other FTTX providers in outside plant applications.ĪPC connectors are also commonly used in passive optical applications (both GPONs and passive optical LANs) due to the fact that many of these systems also use RF signals to deliver video. For example, in higher optical wavelength ranges (above 1500 nanometers) like those used for RF video signals, reflected light can adversely impact the signal. Some applications are more sensitive to return loss than others they call for APC connectors. Our FiberExpress Fusion Splice-On Connectors exceed standards when it comes to insertion loss.įiber Express Fusion Splice-On Connectors: Insertion Loss Fiber Typeįiber Express Brilliance Universal Connectors Fiber Type In fact, insertion loss on Belden’s FiberExpress connectors is the same for UPC and ACP singlemode connectors. Achieving low insertion loss is typically easier with UPC connectors due to less air gaps than APC connectors however, manufacturing techniques have improved significantly to create more precise angles on APC connectors and bring insertion loss closer to that of UPC connectors. Insertion loss is what we use to determine loss budgets. Remember, return loss is different than insertion loss, which refers to the amount of optical power lost through a connector or cable length. Industry standards recommend that UPC connector return loss should be -50 dB or greater, while APC connector return loss should be -60 dB or greater. This causes some differences in return loss, which is a measurement of reflected light that is expressed as a negative dB value (the higher the value, the better). The angled endface of the APC connector causes reflected light to reflect at an angle into the cladding vs. What does this difference mean in terms of performance? With UPC connectors, any reflected light is reflected straight back toward the light source. UPC connectors are blue while APC connectors are green. Another more obvious difference is color. UPC connectors are not exactly flat, however they have a slight curvature for better core alignment. APC connectors feature a fiber endface that is polished at an eight-degree angle UPC connectors are polished with no angle. The main difference between APC and UPC connectors is the fiber endface. Ever wonder what the difference is between ultra physical contact (UPC) and angled physical contact (APC) singlemode fiber connectors and which one to use?
